Home Theater #3 - Lighting Design

After a number of hours searching the web, I found very few resources on home theater lighting. I visited all kinds of sights that gave a trivial amount of information, but few with a lot of actual content. Unfortunately, most of them had a couple of paragraphs and wads of ads. I guess I will need to spend the next week or two doing some additional research...

My personal experience with my in-law's home theater...
Make sure you can light the room up to normal lighting, too!
They installed JUST very lowlight sconces along the walls... 4 or 5 on each wall. I would say they are 10 watt lamps.
They give enough light to come in and find a seat...
but that is about it!
There is a flashlight for dealing with the DVD player.

Plus... it's our "bedroom" when we come and visit...
and we have no light. Getting dressed in the dark!

My vote would be two different lighting systems on two different switches, so you can have the nice low level lighting most of the time, but still have a multifunctional space.

Jennifer,

That is great input. Thanks a bunch. This room will be mainly a theater room, but we will have times where it's used for large gatherings as well.

Also, I need to think about the lighting for the controls - great tip.

Thank,
TTF
